Unleash Creativity: Celebrating International Scribble Day
On March 27, young artists and doodlers around the world come together to celebrate International Scribble Day, inspired by the delightful book “I’m (Not) Just a Scribble” by Diane Alber.
In this blog post, we’ll explore the magic of scribbling and offer creative ways for kids to revel in the joy of self-expression on this special day.
The Power of Scribbling
Scribbling is more than just a random act of drawing; it’s a powerful form of expression that fosters creativity, imagination, and self-confidence in children. International Scribble Day encourages kids to embrace the beauty of their scribbles and appreciate the uniqueness of their artistic endeavors.
Scribble Art was a favorite of mine as a child. Celebrating International Scribble Day is very easy.
I have a fun Scribble Art Activity Pack to celebrate the day. However, you don’t need the pack, any blank paper and a “scribble” will do!
Take this squiggle for example.

With some imagination that scribble becomes a dinosaur! It’s just that easy.
There are 24 different “scribbles” for your children to design with inside the Scribble Day activity pack, as well as a Google Slides drag and drop Scribble Monster!
Explore how you are more than a scribble by reading the book, I’m NOT Just A Scribble By Diane Alder.

Ways Kids Can Celebrate International Scribble Day:
- Scribble Masterpieces: Provide kids with a variety of colorful markers, crayons, and paper. Encourage them to let their imaginations run wild as they create scribble masterpieces. These abstract artworks can be proudly displayed or shared with family and friends.
- Scribble Storytime: Combine literacy with creativity by reading “I’m (Not) Just a Scribble” by Diane Alber. Afterward, inspire kids to create their own scribble stories. They can use their scribbles as prompts for imaginative tales filled with unique characters and adventures.
- Scribble Collaborations: Turn scribbling into a collaborative activity. Family members or friends can contribute their own scribbles to create group artwork. This fosters teamwork, creativity, and a sense of shared accomplishment.
- Scribble Sculptures: Transform two-dimensional scribbles into three-dimensional art. Using clay, playdough, or other moldable materials, kids can sculpt their scribbles into quirky and colorful sculptures.
- Scribble Hunt: Create a fun scavenger hunt by hiding scribbles around the house or in the backyard. Each scribble can lead to a surprise or be part of a larger artistic quest.
- Scribble Fashion Show: Let kids express their personal style by turning their scribbles into wearable art. Provide plain t-shirts, fabric markers, and let them design their own scribble-inspired fashion pieces. Host a Scribble Fashion Show to showcase their creative designs.
