Privacy is serious. I’m a person. I don’t want anyone to violate my Privacy or misuse my information. Laws are COMPLICATED! Lawyers are expensive! (no offense to any of you wonderful professionals – I completely understand WHY you are expensive, see my comment regarding the complexity of the law).
I will do my best to outline the Happy Hive / Homeschool Holiday Privacy Policy in a transparent, honest way. This Privacy Policy will describe who we are and how we use your personal information.
This Privacy Policy describes how I collect, use, and share information when you contact me, subscribe to my services, make a purchase, download a free item, or otherwise engage in business or visit the website homeschoolholiday.com.
This Privacy Policy does not apply to the things third parties do that I do not own or control. I’m not even technologically smart enough to access their stuff, but I will provide you with links to their privacy policies.
#1. Happy Hive/Homeschool Holiday does NOT sell your personal information. I do not need money that badly.
About Us:
Happy Hive/ Homeschool Holiday is a website/blog designed to provide information about educating children to the best of your ability in a fun and engaging manner. This website is for classroom teachers, and parents. The information and products (both free and paid) provided on this website allow the user (that’s you, reading this) to engage in the act of teaching or learning themselves through fun, quirky random holidays.
Information I collect:
When you sign up for my newsletter using MAIL CHIMP I ask for your name, (first and last) your email address, your physical address, (optional) your phone number,(optional) and your birth date. (also optional)
When you make a purchase from me, you will be directed to PAYPAL and they collect your payment information. I cannot see or access credit card or account information. Because my products are digital in nature, I do not need your shipping address, however, PAYPAL may ask for it.
How I use the information collected:
Information collected on this website by myself and any 3rd party plugins is used to send/provide you information about education in its many forms: classroom, homeschool, car schooling, private schools, charter schools, etc.
Each email communication sent via email using MAIL CHIMP contains the option for you to UNSUBSCRIBE without any further obligation. Mail Chimp helps me collect data I use to target email campaigns to better serve you. Happy Hive / Homeschool Holiday DOES NOT sell data, nor personal information.
The newsletter is addressed to you using your first name automatically. Your last name is collected so I can discern between all the Jane’s on my list easily. Those that choose to provide me with a physical address can receive advertisements/coupons regarding my business in the mail via the USPS. Phone numbers are used for local customers only with permission to contact customers for classes, cancellations, appointments or special announcements.
My website is hosted by WORDPRESS and therefore subject to data analytics and information gathering according to their privacy policy. I use this information to improve my blog posts and products offered. I love to see how many people are actually reading my posts. I mean, why keep writing if no one is reading….
You can “FOLLOW” my blog and have the posts sent directly to your email so that you do not have to visit the website. That’s between you and WORDPRESS, but I appreciate it none the less.
Any data in the STATS page of WordPress that is gathered on my behalf, I am using to SERVE you. I want to know the posts that get read the most, so I know what readers like, and want. Again, why write it if no one is reading it 🙂
Search Terms – this tells me what a person searched for when they landed at Happy Hive / Holiday of the Day.
Views – this tells me how many times a post/page has been viewed in a day, week, month and year.
Downloads – when I post downloads (free items for my readers) this tells me how many times it gets downloaded.
Videos – this tells me how many views a video I post gets.
Clicks – this tells me that a link I created was used, and how often.
Countries – this tells me where my visitors are coming from so I can target my audience.
Authors – Which members of my team get read more. It’s not a competition, however it is my job to give my audience what they need to be successful in educating their children/students.
I pin pins to Pinterest – and I hope and Pray those pins lead visitors here! I sometimes even run ads on Pinterest so those PINS get more views and entice you to check out the super-fantastic things we are doing in the Happy Hive.
I want YOU to PIN my PINS and share that awesomeness of Holiday Schooling with the world. Please by all means spread the word.
These thing cause more Data to be collected – I get to know if my advertising dollars are being well spent. You can’t blame a girl for that. But, as I said – I VALUE your privacy, therefore if you do not wish to have the fact you are searching Pinterest all afternoon known to me can opt out of online behavioral advertising through your Pinterest personalization settings or the AdChoices website optout.aboutads.info . I can only see things like from what countries are visitors coming from and what pins are more clicked than others. I have no idea if you pin pictures of hot guys too. Promise.
How Long I keep Data
I keep personal information as necessary to provide you with my services and as described in my Privacy Policy. I may also be required to keep this information to comply with legal and regulatory obligations, to resolve disputes, and to enforce agreements. Data of this nature will be kept for 5 years.
Cookies (not the kind you eat)
Cookies are data that are stored so websites can remember you. Happy Hive is using wordpress, jetpack and other “plug ins” that are running cookies. I have no idea how to access them, but when you first visit this website there is a “pop up” explaining that “cookies” are in use. You accepted it, closed it or did something. If you missed it – here is the link to the COOKIES POLICY POP UP. You can opt out of, or block these cookies and that page tells you how. In my opinion, cookies just make life easier when I visit a website often. It’s like – oh hello Mrs. Gandara – it’s you! Welcome back…instead of dragging myself through the hoops every time. Choice is 100% yours. I’m making curriculum for you, and EATING cookies, not analyzing cookie use on the website.

California – so special
California has it’s own unique set of laws, and seeing how I’m based in California I’m going to try and clarify them for you. My website is tiny and does not legally fall under the CPPA law…it is for websites that share and sell your personal information and make $$$$$ lots.
Everyone hates Wikipedia but here they are saving my life:
The CCPA applies to any business, including any for-profit entity that collects consumers’ personal data, which does business in California, and satisfies at least one of the following thresholds:
- Has annual gross revenues in excess of $25 million;
- Buys or sells the personal information of 50,000 or more consumers or households; or
- Earns more than half of its annual revenue from selling consumers’ personal information.
I don’t fit ANY of those thresholds!
However, the basics of the law state, as a California resident, you have the right to request that I disclose what I collect (See above, below and everything on this page 🙂 and how I use it over the past 12 months in writing. (Don’t be surprised if I print this page of my website, because I’m doing the same thing for everyone. I’m pretty transparent:-)
Whenever you’d like I can delete your personal information, no questions asked, and I promise I won’t hold it against you. If you would like your information (data) deleted from the Happy Hive brain, please CONTACT US, but I assure you I am not selling personal information, just helping homeschoolers 🙂 and teachers. I will delete your information unless I need to keep it for legal reasons.
