Celebrate National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day with this hilarious activity. The kids write instructions, and the adult follows the instructions EXACTLY as written. (Think Amelia Bedelia style)
Following instructions is a skill all children need, but so is GIVING instructions. To help illustrate the importance of giving clear, step-by-step instructions, Use this peanut butter and Jelly activity.
This activity works at any age, you can scribe directions for any children who may not be fluent writers. I do recommend having multiple children participate. 3 – 5 work best. Solicit entries from friends, neighbors, cousins or other homeschooling families.
I always made sure to have unsuccessful sandwiches before any that *may* work to create an actual peanut butter and jelly sandwich. It is not necessary to have an entry that *works* however.
If you are able to do this activity in person, it’s fun to hold the demonstration right before lunch so you can present the children with their sandwiches – whatever the result may be.
Have plenty of actual edible sandwiched on hand!
If there are potential allergy issues making a video and showing it is a great option. In fact, the download contains the Happy Hive version so you can see just how fun this writing and following instructions activity can be.
