WORLD RADIO DAY

Believe it or not, worldwide radio is the most consumed means of communication. Radio is one of the most trusted forms of media in the world. 

The first World Radio Day was held in 2012. February 13th was chosen as it is the anniversary of the day that the United Nations established the United Nations Radio in 1946. World Radio Day was started by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

Each year a theme is chosen and radio stations worldwide are asked to promote the day as a way to continue to bring awareness to the unique ability radio has to meet the needs of humankind. 

You can celebrate by:

Listening to Old Radio Shows

• Finding reliable news programs and educational reports to supplement your homeschooling that is broadcast over the radio
• Be sure you have a radio and batteries in your emergency kit
• Record your own “radio” program and play it back for your family
• Recreate a radio broadcast of a historic event – instead of writing a report, create a news broadcast. 
• Listen to War of the Worlds by Orson Wells- Many people believed what they were hearing was REAL.
