Russian is one of the six official languages of the United Nations. We celebrate this special day to embrace multilingualism, cultural diversity and to promote equal use of all six official languages.
They selected June 6 as Russian Language Day to pay tribute to the Russian poet Alexander Pushkin. Pushkin is considered the father of the modern Russian language.
The Official Languages of the United Nations are:
- Arabic (Modern Standard Arabic) -December 18th
- Chinese (Mandarin Chinese in simplified Chinese characters)- April 20th
- English (British English)- April 23rd
- French – March 20th
- Russian- June 6
- Spanish April 23rd
