National Proofreading Day was started in 2012 by Judy Beaver in honor of her mother, Flo. Flo enjoyed correcting grammar mistakes. (She would likely have a field day with me!)

The proofreader does not make the corrections, instead, a proofreader sends the text back to the writer or the editor. The writer or editor makes the actual corrections and adjustments based on the suggestions of the proofreader.
