The Inventive History of Carrot Cake
If Carrot Cake is going to count as my vegetables for the day, I would eat more vegetables for sure.
February 3 is a day dedicated to a delightfully unique and flavorful treat – Carrot Cake Day!
In this blog post, we’ll explore the intriguing history behind the invention of carrot cake, shed light on other cake holidays, and share creative ways for kids to celebrate the joy of baking and indulging in delicious cakes.
The Origins of Carrot Cake
Carrot cake’s roots can be traced back centuries, with variations found in European and Middle Eastern culinary traditions. The modern carrot cake we know today, however, gained popularity during the early 20th century.
The earliest known recipe for carrot cake was found in a French cookbook in 1827. Historians believe carrot cake was invented when sugar and other sweeteners were hard to find in the Middle Ages. Women began using carrots as a substitute.
