International Museum Day was designed to raise awareness about the fact that, “Museums are an important means of cultural exchange, enrichment of cultures and development of mutual understanding, cooperation and peace among peoples.” 

It was created in 1977 by the International Council of Museums (ICOM). Museums teach us about the past and help us open our minds to new ideas. Museums are an important part of our community. 

From art and history to science and technology, museums offer a window into the past, present, and future, inspiring curiosity, creativity, and lifelong learning. As we commemorate this special holiday, I also want to remind you of the educational value of visiting museums and discovering fun ways kids can celebrate the wonders of these cultural institutions.

The Significance of International Museum Day

Each year, museums around the world participate in special events and activities to celebrate their collections, engage with their communities, and promote the value of cultural heritage and education.
