A Brief History of Hot Air Balloons
The history of hot air balloons dates back to the late 18th century when the Montgolfier brothers, Joseph-Michel and Jacques-Étienne, launched the first untethered hot air balloon flight in France. On June 4th, 1783, their balloon, made of cloth and paper and fueled by burning wool and straw, ascended into the sky for about ten minutes, marking a significant milestone in aviation history.
Inspired by their success, more and more inventors and adventurers began experimenting with hot air balloons. In 1785, Jean-Pierre Blanchard and John Jeffries completed the first successful manned balloon crossing of the English Channel.
