May 28th is all about Celebrating Hamburger Charlie.
Charlie Nagreen of Seymore Wisconsin is credited with *inventing* the Hamburger. Charlie was 15 at the time. He had the idea to help his meatballs sell better. He smashed meatballs between two slices of bread and began selling them at the fair, calling them “hamburgers” after the Hamburg Steaks that were popular at the time among the many German immigrants.
Hamburger or meatball sandwich? You decide.
We think the day is great fun, and definitely, a reason to celebrate. In fact. To help, Happy Hive Homeschooling has this Hamburger History Product that walks you through the History of Hamburgers from the Ancient Romans, including Charlie Nagreen, some Mongol warriors, and much more!
Your kids can predict the order fast food restaurants were established, create a timeline for your wall, and more.

You can celebrate HAMBURGER DAY by:
Have a burger cookout: Fire up the grill and invite family and friends over for a backyard burger cookout. Kids can help prepare the patties and toppings and even create their own signature burger recipe.
Make homemade burgers: For a more hands-on experience, have kids help make homemade burger patties and cook them in a pan or on a griddle.
Have a burger taste test: Take a trip to a few local burger joints and have a taste test to see which restaurant has the best burger in town.
Play hamburger-themed games: Get creative and come up with fun games like a hamburger relay race or a hamburger toss.
Decorate hamburger cookies: Bake and decorate cookies in the shape of hamburger patties, buns, and toppings.
Create burger-themed crafts: Encourage kids to get crafty and make hamburger-themed crafts like this BOGUS BURGER.
Learn about the history of hamburgers: Teach kids about the history of hamburgers and how they became a popular food in America.
