The iconic song we know as The Chicken Dance comes from Switzerland. It began there in the 1950s and made its way to the United States sometime in the 1970s. Originally titled The Duck Dance, it was written by 20-year-old Werner Thomas. He played the song in his restaurant in the 1960s.

It was only after the song was heard in a resort many years later that lyrics were added and it was released to the public.  In the 1970s when the song came to the United States they tried to add lyrics in English, but they never took off.

By the late 1980s, it became known as  The Chicken Dance and has been used at parties, Oktoberfest events, and even in television commercials.

I’m pretty sure the only way to celebrate is to participate in a FULL BLOWN VERSION of the dance.
