Earmuffs & Cheer: Celebrating National Earmuff Day with Kids on March 13th”

As winter winds down, March 13th brings us a quirky and delightful celebration – National Earmuff Day! This lighthearted occasion invites us to pay tribute to the cozy accessory that keeps our ears warm in chilly weather.

In this blog post, let’s explore the history of National Earmuff Day and share entertaining ways for kids to join in the fun.

The Story Behind National Earmuff Day:

National Earmuff Day honors the invention of earmuffs by Chester Greenwood, a young inventor from Farmington, Maine. In 1873, at the age of 15, Chester created the first earmuffs to protect his ears from the cold while ice skating.

Chester was tired of using an itchy wool scarf to keep his ears warm in winter. He knew there had to be a better solution. He started working on the idea when he was just 15 and was awarded the patent On March 13, 1877, when he was 18!

Farmington became known as the Earmuff Capital of the World, especially after Greenwood’s company began supplying earmuffs to U.S. soldiers during World War I.

His innovative design has since become a winter staple, providing warmth and comfort during frosty days.
