Description

On April 13, 1899, the inventor of Scrabble, Alfred Mosher Butts, was born. He would not invent the game he called  “Lexiko”, but later changed the name to “Criss Cross Words, until 1938.

The game is a household staple and a welcome sight for any family fun night.  You can celebrate Scrabble Day by playing the game and with this free printable set of 6 Family Fun activities using Scrabble Tiles.

I have included the same tiles as in the boxed Scrabble game, except for the blanks.

A-9, B-2, C-2, D-4, E-12, F-2, G-3, H-2, I-9, J-1, K-1, L-4, M-2, N-6, O-8, P-2, Q-1, R-6, S-4, T-6, U-4, V-2, W-2, X-1, Y-2, Z-1.

The first activity is for use with Spelling or Vocabulary words. Choose 5 or 10 words from the list, cut out the letters, make the word, then add up the value.

There are additional game ideas you can use for a family, classroom, etc.

I suggest printing the letters on card stock and laminating them for durability, but it is not necessary. Included with the “games” are 3 printable Boggle sheets, each containing a different puzzle.

I’m sure you will come up with other ways to use this fantastic resource as well!
