SUMMARY:CHIMBORAZO DAY
DESCRIPTION:This post, Chimborazo Day, may contain affiliate links, which means Happy Hive Homeschooling may receive a commission, at no extra cost to you, if you make a purchase through a link. Please see our full disclosure for further information.\n\n\n\nThe Ecuadorian mountain of Chimborazo looms over the country’s cloud-covered landscapes, standing at 20,564 feet tall. Ecuadorians celebrate Chimborazo Day to honor this beloved mountain. \n\n\n\nWhile technically Chimborazo is not the highest mountain in the world, it is the highest point on earth. Kinda confusingly cool right? Let me explain: It all depends on how mountains are measured. Chimborazo is located on the Earth’s bulge at the equator. Because this mountain is measured from Earth’s center, instead of sea level, it is the closest point to the moon. \n\n\n\nThe Chimborazo volcano is one of the most accessible and popular climbs in Ecuador. On the holiday, people flock to the mountain to take in the stunning views of the Andes mountains, the high-altitude glaciers, and the surrounding valleys. The holiday is an opportunity to appreciate the natural beauty of the area and to honor the mountain. \n\n\n\nDuring Chimborazo Day, Ecuadorian climbers and mountain guides also come together to pay tribute to the mountain’s history. The mountain has been used as a training ground for climbers since the 19th century and has been the site of many famous ascents. Every year, new challenges are set and climbers take to the mountain in an attempt to summit the peak. \n\n\n\nYou can celebrate CHIMBORAZO DAY by: \n\n\n\nLearning about the volcano and its surrounding areas\n\n\n\nCreating a craft project related to Ecuador, Chimborazo, or any Volcano\n\n\n\nDoing a science experiment related to volcanoes\n\n\n\nMake a model of Chimborazo\n\n\n\nWrite a story about a fictional adventure to the volcano\n\n\n\nHiking a mountain in your area\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCan’t celebrate this year – Mark your calendar & save this holiday for next year!\n\n\n\nYou can also pin the image below to your Pinterest boards to save this fantastic holiday!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nReturn to main calendar HERE\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWant Ideas for celebrating in your inbox every day?
