These mythical creatures are the subject of much debate. Did they once exist and are now simply extinct, or are they imaginary? \n\n\n\nSome scholars claim that the unicorn is mentioned in the Bible.\n\n\n\n“Unicorns” in the Bible\n\n\n\nI’m sure you want to go check for yourself…but first, we need to review how the Bible we read today got published. We are reading translations. I’m not in any way implying the Bible is not the word of God, however, we are all familiar with the use of synonyms and how they can alter the meaning of a sentence. \n\n\n\nUnicorns in the Bible is a GREAT example. The word unicorns appears in the Authorized King James Version of the bible. If your religious denomination uses another translation of the Bible, it has likely been “put back” to wild ox or another animal.\n\n\n\nthe New King James Version vs. the New American Bible. \n\n\n\nThe verse is even “off” by one for a fair comparison. However, the overall message is the same. We are simply looking for the existence of unicorns in the Bible for fun!\n\n\n\nPsalm 22:21 New King James = Save me from the lion’s mouth: for thou hast heard me from the horns of the unicorns. Psalm 22:22 in the New American Bible, Revised Edition (NABRE) = Save me from the lion’s mouth, my poor life from the horns of wild bulls.\n\n\n\nWhy are the 2 Bibles different? \n\n\n\nThe Old Testament was written in Hebrew and later translated into other languages.\n\n\n\nWhen Greek scholars began translating the original Hebrew Bible into Greek they came across a word they were unfamiliar with: re’em. It is thought this word referred to a one-horned wild ox that had become extinct. Therefore, they translated the word to the closest word (a synonym let’s say): monokeros. This word means one-horned.\n\n\n\nWhen the Bible was later translated from Greek to Latin by St. Jerome, He came across the word monokeros and changed it to the Latin word unicornis, which also means one-horned. When the Bible was translated into English, there was no English word that meant one-horned, so the word unicorn was used, and a new word was invented. Different denominations of Christianity adopted different translations of the Bible so\n\n\n\n …for some, there may be unicorns, others wild ox, and even others wild bulls!\n\n\n\nI suppose we will never know if Unicorns as we define them,  truly existed, but today is a day to celebrate them nonetheless! \n\n\n\nThe Mythical Beauty of Unicorns\n\n\n\nUnicorns, legendary creatures often depicted as majestic, horse-like beings with a single spiraled horn on their foreheads, have captured the imagination of cultures worldwide. Believed to symbolize purity, grace, and magic, unicorns have been a source of inspiration in literature, art, and folklore for centuries.\n\n\n\nFun Facts about Unicorns:\n\n\n\n\nAncient Roots: References to unicorns can be found in ancient Mesopotamian and Indus Valley civilizations, and they have appeared in the mythology of various cultures, including Greek, Roman, and Chinese.\n\n\n\nMedieval Symbolism: During the medieval period, unicorns became associated with purity and grace. In European folklore, it was believed that only a virgin could tame a unicorn.\n\n\n\nHorn Properties: The magical horn, often referred to as an alicorn, was believed to have healing properties. Unicorn horns were thought to neutralize poisons and purify water.\n\n\n\nModern Popularity: Unicorns have experienced a resurgence in popular culture in recent years. They appear in literature, movies, and a wide range of merchandise, captivating audiences with their magical allure.\n\n\n\n\nWays Kids Can Celebrate National Unicorn Day:\n\n\n\n\nUnicorn Crafts: Encourage kids to unleash their creativity by engaging in unicorn-themed crafts.
